pantswarrior: Gaming by candlelight equals romantic evening. (gamer)

Can relate to this. But it's not so much that I don't have the time, it's just that I still love the games I played when I was younger and want to replay them far more than I want to play anything I'm seeing released nowadays. Zero interest in multiplayer or app games, and it seems like that's practically all I'm seeing anymore. So with the occasional exception, all my gaming in the last few years (other than Rock Band) has been replaying PS2/DS or earlier era games, sometimes the HD/portable remakes of them, sometimes even playing games from those eras I never got around to playing when they were new... but hardly ever current games. I also miss pixel art and not everything having to be hyper-realistic and 3D. ;_;

This is a good point. I do a lot of replaying. I replay old games, would buy rereleases of old games for newer consoles if they left them unchanged (ex. Mario 64, Cruisin' USA, etc) and rarely want to try anything new.
pantswarrior: Edward, from FFIV, hiding. (hide!)

Heh, I've bought the rereleases. The Ico/Shadow of the Colossus collection was absolutely worth it, and FFIV Complete totally justified my purchase of a PSP (it's my favorite FF game and I now own five different versions of it, and that version made it look like it ALWAYS looked inside my head).

...Actually if they'd stop releasing new versions of my favorite games with additional content/better translation/etc, maybe I'd have time to play new games. XD But nah, too busy writing fic and cosplaying and stuff for those old fandoms too. That's another problem - no time for new fandoms when there's so much I still want to do with the old ones.

Oh God yes. I'm still writing fanfic for my favorite older fandoms. Fire Emblem, Rose of Versailles, and then I go back to fandoms I was in when I was younger and write for them. New fandoms? Psshh. It's so rare for me to try anything new I think my friends weep with joy if I give something they love a chance.

Yeah, I just signed up for a fic challenge thing, and what am I thinking of writing for it? Vagrant Story and Suikoden. And then in two days I'm going to be at a con cosplaying Get Backers, which I first cosplayed in 2003 (just made my THIRD VERSION of Ban's shirt)... It's not that I'm not a gamer/fan anymore, just I'm still a gamer/fan for the same darned stuff over and over. XD

Actually hashing this out in the comments here makes me feel a little more validated. Much like the secret's OP, I was kind of wondering if I should still be calling myself a gamer... but even if I'm not playing the new ones, gaming is still a HUGE part of my life. Half the people I've friended on Facebook are people I met through video game cosplay. XD
