Fainting
I had it happen to me this morning. I was just there talking to my mom, and suddenly my vision started to go dim, and I couldn't keep my balance and started just staggering trying not to fall over. I fell into mom, who caught me and helped me over to the couch, and I sat there for a few minutes before the sweating and the ringing in my ears went away. Ten minutes later I was totally fine, like it had never happened. Still have no idea what caused it. I don't think it was hunger or tiredness, I'm not sick, and I'm definitely not pregnant...
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)What happened to me was Vasovagal Syncope or Vasovagal Response, and it's like when the wires in your brain get crossed and you blood pressure drops like crazy. If you're sitting down, you might not lose consciousness. I looked into it a lot because it freaked me out so much that my body could just do that for no reason. Ugh.

One day I ran a few miles and when I was in the shower I blacked out for half a minute or so. I was standing and swaying on my feet and my eyes were open but I couldn't see anything.
Re: Fainting
strangely enough, it almost always happens in a bathroom.
Re: Fainting
Re: Fainting
When it happened I didn't have time to react or anything I blacked out and woke up on the floor with my lip bleeding. It was from going about 48 hours without sleep though so, that was probably the cause.
I get dizzy a lot though (especially when I shower or when I get up if I lie flat on my back or stomach), and if I don't sit down or lean on something I faint. Never really thought about when or why it happens, it is just a part of my body that malfunctions once in a while.

Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)More recently (as in a few years ago), I ended up passing out from what I think might've been possible anemia due to poor diet. (I definitely wasn't eating well, and nothing like this has happened since I started paying better attention to what I'm putting in my body.) I was standing up, but I felt dizzy and my vision was starting to go black, so I sat down (since that's what I was taught to do as a kid from the aforementioned fainting spells), but I ended up blacking out anyway - fell out of the chair and smacked into tile floor head-first. Ended up with a golf-ball-sized lump on my forehead and calling out of work sick that day.
A few years before that, I passed out when giving blood for testing for anemia - which my mom thought I had when in reality, the blood test showed that my lethargy and general crappy feeling was because I had a mild case of mono. I do seem to be prone to anemia, though, but that particular time was most likely because I was still recovering from being sick.
Re: Fainting
the last time was when i was walking back to a friend's place. i started to fall over, then everything turned green and i couldn't hear. i made it to her staircase after i could see again, then faceplanted and passed out for (according to her) 5 minutes. i thought i was going to die but then i woke up and had some ice cream.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)Both my times were to do with heat and crowding though, so I'm not really sure what yours was. I'd suggest going to your GP to get it checked out.

Re: Fainting
The doctor said I was fine after checking me out, but she was at least able to explain what happened and now I know more about it in case I have to have another blood test in future (well, I do, since I never technically completed that one, but :S). If you're able to, it might be best you go.
Good luck.
Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 12:58 am (UTC)(link)I haven't gotten a shot since. :/
Re: Fainting
I was lifting my foot up to look at it and just...dark, wham, nothing. Weirdest thing ever. Never happened again.
Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:40 am (UTC)(link)Needless to say I spent the rest of my waiting room time on a gurney...
Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)The first time in my teens, I was sitting at my desk and I fell over, knocked my head into the corner and woke up on the floor.
One time in the military I was in formation and they all thought I "locked my knees", but then I fainted two more times after I came to in a 10 minute period. The last time I woke up when I was in the ER already.
But still, they have no idea what caused it. I have no idea if I have some illness or if it's random weirdness.

Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)One I was at school, I was 13 and on my period and felt awful already. And suddenly I realized I was sweating through my clothes and getting tunnel vision. It was actually a rehearsal for a end of the year event, so I couldn't just leave. Once we finished I went to get a bottle of water and drank it almost completely in one gulp. Thankfully I didn't faint, because talk about embarrassing!
Second time was also on my period (Heavy periods + Thalassemia is not a good combo) and after being in bed with no food because I felt so bad, I somehow thought that having a bath was the best idea and would make me feel better. Well, hot water apparently dilates your vessels and lowers your BP :D I almost fainted when getting out of the tub.
As I said before, I'm anemic and after that time I learnt not to take baths if I feel so bad, and if I'm feeling a bit light headed to eat some salt before bathing, because I end up feeling bad (I should stop taking baths maybe, but I like them! xD)
Re: Fainting
Turns out that I had a severe simple vasovagal faint, with convulsive features. Fun!
Re: Fainting
ONCE.
(No, seriously, that's the entirety of my fainting experiences. Fainting is a foreign concept to my body.)
Re: Fainting
Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 07:07 am (UTC)(link)It was the weirdest thing.
Re: Fainting
(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 08:49 am (UTC)(link)But fainting can be caused by a ridiculously lot of (common) things, so it's better to check this, especially if it had been a first time.
