Oh jesus Christ. She grazed him. When he was off in the distance moving sort of like a fucking walker. She didn't go 'oh hey letme shoot Daryl in he head!" she went 'fuck walker' and fired. And HE FORGAVE HER.

Oh and you seriously think that doormat!Carol would be good for Daryl. Andrea would have at least stood up to him and been an equal partner. Carol would just enable all the bad parts of Daryl.

Plus Norman and Laurie are pretty good fucking friends.

Uh, no. They really aren't. That is why there is always another cast member with them if they're both doing the same interview/convention/whatever.

Huh so that's why he's always hugging her, kissing her cheek, and talking to her on twitter? I wasn't aware that's how people that don't like each other act.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Any of the Betties can tell you all about his yourworldoftext wall. He's very devoted to his pre-TWD fans ;)

I have no dog in this fight, but Norman Reedus kisses ALL of them, Steve Yeun, Andrew Lincoln, and Scott Wilson included.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't start talking to her on twitter until he unlocked his account for public view.

Carol hasn't been a "doormat" since Season 1. Have you been watching this past season at all? She's gotten a lot stronger and more confident, but in a mature and stable way, in contrast to Andrea's impulsive, self-centered bravado. Daryl doesn't need someone to "stand up to him" -- he needs someone to help him learn how to deal with people and let the gentler parts of himself show. Are you forgetting that Daryl canonically had an abusive upbringing? Andrea would just run roughshod over him. Just because Daryl is a badass at zombie-killing doesn't mean he has a lot of interpersonal confidence.

THIS

As for what Daryl needs...hrm. I agree he needs people in his life that he can be comfortable with and let the gentler parts of himself show. I don't necessarily agree that it has to be Carol simply because I'm uncomfortable with the suggestion that this has to come from a romantic relationship, which is the way the writers really do seem to be angling it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that it doesn't have to be in the context of a romantic relationship -- I think we're seeing a bit of the same thing in the way Daryl interacts with Carl, and "Little Asskicker," but I'm also totally okay with a Daryl/Carol romance.

doormat!Carol? Are we shaming abuse victims now? WTF is wrong with you?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, how dare 90 lbs. Carol not straddle her husband and beat his face into the ground like Shane did.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, by not doing that she was totally asking to be abused. How dare Shane kill her husband and take that away from her and little girl!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
She can be a victim and a doormat at the same time, ya know.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Except that she hasn't been either for a long time.

She shot him because she was acting like a gung-ho moron. After that stunt they should have made sure she wasn't even allowed a sharp stick never mind a gun. Her demand desire to be at the center of everything (even more than queen bee Lori) made her unreliable, and that was what made her shoot Daryl. Even with the best intentions, if she hadn't been so damn set on showing how badass she could be and more cautious then it probably wouldn't have been an issue. Not only did she almost kill a member of the group, she also wasted ammo doing it.

In a world without utilities, anyone can end up looking like a zombie when coming in wounded from the scrub, and she didn't bother to think about that. Confirm your target, conserve your ammunition, keep a cool head. Andrea did none of that.

Exactly this. There was absolutely NO reason for her to be taking potshots at "zombies" all the way back near the treeline, when other members of the group were already moving in with melee weapons to avoid (a) the sound of gunshots, which draw more zombies, and (b) wasting ammunition needlessly. She just wanted to prove how badass she was, and nearly killed one of the most valuable members of the group in doing so.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, she wanted a shortcut to respect. She saw the guys had respect, and she wanted in but she wanted it quick, so she acted recklessly without forethought but with a huge heap of entitlement. Which was stupid. Rick and Shane had respect because they had police training and that meant facing down crap as well as planning (admittedly Shane is a failure here, but the group didn't know that at that point), Daryl had respect because of his woodsmanship skills, Dale had a whole lot of life experience and a calm demeanor (mostly), and Glen had respect because he proved himself as a tactician and being willing to take personal risks for the good of the group.

Andrea wanted that level of respect. She wanted to be seen as a big shot. It was no different than young Carl throwing stones at the trapped zombie. Both of them childishly trying to make themselves look big and important, and both doing more harm than good. She just didn't want to put in the hard work to get it the slow way.

Andrea didn't want to be down with those she didn't think deserved respect (she was real judgmental, as much as Lori even) which were mostly the other women. And T-Dog. And T-Dog and Carol were slowly gaining respect, mainly by doing hard work that needed doing, but that wasn't the glamorous gun-slinging so that wasn't good enough for Andrea. She wanted to go from zero to hero in one step. Just like young Carl.

She was a grown ass woman acting like a child.

Very well said. That sums up Season 2 Andrea pretty exactly, especially in that incident.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't she some sort of lawyer before the Zombie Apocalypse? She was probably used to getting automatic respect based on social status and since Zombies don't need lawyers now has no marketable skill in the new normal. That feeling of entitlement due to what she remembers, and her new status has got to burn. She has to start at the bottom and pay her dues all over again, 'cept she didn't want to do that. She wanted her old status back quick. That is real liability there.
