Re: are you afraid of dying?

It doesn't bother me because I guess I'm not expecting anything afterwords? Nothing really that scary to me about nothing. I mean, I'd like to do a few things before that, but being forgotten isn't something I'm concerned about.

You might be wrong about people being scared about though, it's a pretty common fear! Ranks about the tenth most common one, if memory serves.

"Nothing" is absolutely terrifying to me. The idea that all my memories and experiences will simply...cease to be intensely bothers me. I find myself thinking, "what is the point of anything that I do? What is the point of my even being alive in the first place, if everything that am will vanish at death as if it never existed?" And I then I fixate and work myself into despair and horror.

I'd like t think that we still have our memories and identities....at least until we are reincarnated. We do keep some quirks from this life to the next.

But this is just speculation of course.

Well, I think of it as even if I'm dead all the people I've impacted aren't just yet and then they impact other people and so on. I mean, my name will eventually be forgotten, but not all of me, I don't think.

I think the idea of an afterlife is more terrifying. Nothing is more terrifying than eternity, eternal existence is just scary as hell. When I was forced to go to church as a kid I came up against this a lot, I had Sunday school teachers try to tell me things like "well a minute in Heaven is like a million years on earth" and I was just like "time is meaningless if existence is eternal so that doesn't make me feel any better".

Think about it, how would you not get bored of just BEING after a while? I feel more comfort knowing when I die my body will just decompose (or get burned to ash depending on what I decide)
