I... am not sure I'd agree that "abusive text messages" allegedly sent to the woman with whom you're currently going through a divorce should mean the end of one's career, honestly. I'm sure I've sent less than polite messages/calls to soon-to-be-ex-boyfriends myself.

Being impossible to work with on a set, on the other hand...

True. I mean, it all depends on the message. If he's writing "I'm going to come over to your house and kill you," that's wrong, and he should be arrested, and all that. If he's just calling her a terrible person and swearing, well, that's divorce for you. I wish he'd be classier about it, but it's hardly a mortal sin.

It wasn't just texts, though, and it wasn't "currently going through a divorce", it was two years later.

"Amid allegations that Bean physically abused Sutcliffe in 2009, domestic disturbances resulted in the police being called to their home in Belsize Park on three occasions. Bean and Sutcliffe's separation was announced on 6 August 2010, and the divorce was finalised on 21 December 2010. On 9 May 2012 Bean was arrested over claims he made harassing phone calls and sent abusive text messages to Sutcliffe and was later released on bail. All charges were subsequently dropped."

All charges were subsequently dropped.

I'd hold out on tarring and feathering the guy, myself. Doesn't mean it's not true, but it doesn't mean it is true, either.

This sort of attitude is what I hate, tbh.

Like, gee, I can't imagine why charges against a violent man who is also a fairly well-liked public figure might be dropped even if they were true. She was probably lying, right?

Fuck this. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to a male celebrity being charged with abuse, even if the person bringing the charges is pressured into dropping them later I personally take the view he's guilty unless proven innocent.

I didn't say she was "probably lying". I didn't say anything even remotely close to that. I said we don't know for sure what actually happened.

Which is... well, which is the factual truth.

Don't let what I actually said get in the way of your axe to grind, though, by all means.

So? I've seen nothing but ridicule for Roger Moore when he stated some time ago that two of his former wives had been physically abusive.

I live in a country where you're innocent until proven guilty by law and I really think that's the best way to handle things. Everything else just opens the door to false accusations that can potentially ruin an innocent person's life.

There are also a lot of situations where people in a relationship BOTH physically abuse each other, and since we don't know exactly what happened, maybe we shouldn't write him off as a horrible person

Though I still consider his behavior abusive and unacceptable, still, a lot of domestic situations are more complicated than just "victimized woman who gets battered and is otherwise a saint"

"allegations" "claims"

No matter what sex a person is when I see those words I step back and don't behave like a know it all.

Don't you know when a man is accused of doing something to a woman it's automatically true no matter if evidence exists or if he was even found guilty of doing said crime
