Generally speaking, so long as a star doesn't cause production problems, they've still got a shot, no matter what's going on in their personal lives. That's why it was so hard for CBS to get rid of Charlie Sheen -- he was going apeshit everywhere else, but he always showed up for work and did his job.

Don't know about Bean, and while Penn is an awful person for treating Madonna the way he did, Penn is a more reliable actor than Lohan. People can count on him to show up for work. Lohan, not so much.

I think at least some of it has to do with the fact that Bean and Penn can reel in their issues while they're filming and doing press. Lindsay clearly can't.

Hey, I'll be the first to decry double standards for men and women, but I really don't think that's what's going on in the examples you picked.

1. Sean Bean and Penn are very good actors, which makes them more in demand (Oh Sean Bean, you die so prettily.) Lindsey... is not.

2. IIRC, the Seans have worked their asses off for decades, exhibiting any bad behavior after they'd established themselves as good actors. Not so with Ms. Lohan.

3. Also to the best of my knowledge, the Seans are very professional and hardworking on set, and Ms. Lohan is not. That's the main kiss of death right there.

4. Also, I don't think the Seans have nearly as much scandal. I mean Penn hit some Paparazzi, but that's hardly a sin, and I certainly haven't seen any compromising pictures of Bean - though you are free to prove me wrong there. Seriously, if you have dirty pictures of that man you should totally show me up by posting them - or links to them. You'd, like, totally win that argument. And all the arguments. Pics?

Lindsay Lohan has plenty of time to make a comeback. The problem right now is that she is apparently not even trying.

But she's relatively young and other stars have come back from scandal. So yeah, her career and reputation are up to her. If she wants to keep on with the crazy then yeah, it's over, but if she straightens up and makes a comeback I bet she'd kick ass and totally pull a Drew Barrymore.

Madonna and Sean Penn was also over 25 years ago. I can't say I've kept tabs on everything he has ever done, but people can change. People can be remorseful.

Lohan seems to make no attempts to get better.

Britney Spears is a good example of making it work. She had some problems. Did some shit. She's come out on the other side.

Maybe Lohan shouldn't steal a bunch from shit from the set of a show that gave her a fucking chance when every single person told them not to? I mean, sure, it's Anger Management, but still. That's so rude and ugh.

Mostly I don't think Sean Bean is even remotely on the same level as Sean Penn, you just added him in there because most people still relatively love Bean and were hoping for arguments there.

Lohan and Penn are pretty much on the same level of assholery, just for different things(I'd crucify Penn before Lohan personally, but I see why she gets less work because most of her infractions are work based and not personal)

But I do think there are good reasons Lindsay isn't being hired.

I do think there would be big differences how the media would present it if Lindsay were male and Penn and Bean were female. I think it is getting better, though. I do see people talking about Sean Penn's various acts of assholery now, I see that happening all over the internet, unlike back in the day with Madonna.

Lindsay has become pure spectacle now. The biggest problem is that she relishes it. And if she were a guy, this would still be a huge, tabloid-headline-grabbing spectacle. Guy!Lindsay definitely would have a difficult time getting his foot in the door with reputable directors. Maybe not AS difficult as Real!Lindsay, but it'd be pretty close, I'd bet.

Her reputation is ruined and her career is basically over BECAUSE SHE IS UNINSURABLE. Movie productions cannot get insurance if they cast her.

Yes, RDJ was in the same boat at one time. I think it was Mel Gibson who took a chance on him and personally fronted the money when they couldn't get insurance for RDJ - BTW, not commenting on Mel's many faults here, just relating the background in regards to what it takes to get back to work if you're deemed uninsurable.

In fact, I believe she did get an offer from Warren Beatty at once time (few years ago now) - he offered her a part in one of his movies, on condition that she lived in a house on his property during filming and was supervised (no drugs, no partying).

Bottom line, she has to get her shit together and deal with her substance issue before she gets another chance.

Don't forget that Hollywood loves a comeback story - if anyone were halfway convinced that she wouldn't burn them, they'd offer her a chance.

But she hasn't showed the single, slightest hint that she has any awareness of the problems she herself has created in her own life, much less any insight into how to change them. She denies she has drinking issues, she has no drug issues, she doesn't steal (people just GIVE things to her), and everywhere she goes, she leaves a chaotic trail behind her.

She's the author of her own misfortunes.

Personally, every time I see anything in the news/online about Ms Lohan, it just makes me sad. She was so cute and happy and really did a good job and now...all this. It makes we wonder just wtf is going on in her life.

Well, it is just typical of a) Hollywood (any celeb industry) b) the media and c) people. It is hypocrisy right across the board. I mean look at the hate Kristen (Kirsten?) Stewart got. A bunch of men have done the same thing and get less of an offensive/career damaging response. Same with Chris Brown - while he got a backlash, it wasn't as extreme as it probably should have been (and there are a bunch of women on Twitter saying he can beat them up, happily). That said, a bunch of white Hollywood stars have been abusive and they haven't had ANY negative impact on their careers.

It's double standards, idiocy and ...well, just sad.

I see what you're going for op but this wasn't the best comparison to make. The fact is lindsay's career is over because she costs a lot to insure and is not a box office draw and brings trouble with her. the reason these guys get off is because they are the opposite - good at their jobs. your secret should have been about how easy it is for guys like them to get away because talent. the sexism you were going for doesn't apply here
