idk, I have a bigger pet peeve with her name NOT being Romanova, because a really good friend of mine is Russian and once told me a story about her brother marrying a Japanese girl and taking her back to Russia, but the Russian government gave them hell about legal paperwork because she'd taken his (masculine) last name instead of the feminine form (because they'd have gone through hell in Japan if she hadn't)

I get that there are lots of female descendants of Russians with masculine family names, but that story always niggles my mind when I see her last name.
