Well, sometimes you don't know it is crap until you have watched the whole thing. In fact, most of my most hated eps are never entirely crap. Generally I was enjoying them to a certain point in the ep (or at the very least if things weren't to my liking I could still see a way for it to become interesting) until they lost all the potential they were building up with some stupid plot twist or unnecessary event or whatever.

Well, that and some people just wanna riff on whatever it is they are watching. Or just... know how bad it is. Like watching a trainwreck. You just can't look away from the unfolding horror.

Well, sure, you can't avoid everything bad, but if you're in a situation where you know you're not enjoying an episode... why bother? I mean, I think that's different from a good episode that loses it at the end. And I think hatewatching is a different phenomenon entirely.

Personally, I keep watching (unless it is really really bad) cause I have seen so many TV shows with bad eps before that either ended up being important to the overall plot and plodding through the ep once is preferable to spending a bunch of time completely confused next ep wtf is happening or the ep is bad, but it has one glorious scene not necessarily related to the plot of the ep itself that somewhat redeems it for me. And well, no way to know what scenes are gonna work for you until you see it. I don't trust overall fandom opinion seeing as I've seen people go crazy for scenes I thought were dull and completely ignore scenes I thought were amazing.
