I'm a Christian who is, unfortunately, bored to tears by the majority of Christian music x.x There are a few old hymns that I like, but I've tried and failed to find anything modern with interesting lyrics (which I guess to me means even slightly complex messages).

So, I guess this is a long-winded way of asking for recommendations?

OP

It's been a while since I listened to it regularly--the more political stuff rubs me the wrong way, so I switched to other radio stations, and went a long time without really thinking about it. I made this secret after finding one good Christian song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zkUQMDvTY0 , on Youtube the other day.

I'm trying to remember other great Christian songs . . . I like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uextEnUYJZc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pYxhS-X9C0 but they're a little more on the critical side. I'm okay with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7umsq5n1THw , but it's not really my favorite. Now that I think about it, the songs I most like are the ones that are mildly Christian like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdWB4IU1InI rather than full-on PRAYZ JEEZUZ!

ughhh i know what you mean re: terrible christian music. EVERYTHING IS HILLSONG! But fear not, there IS good music out there, it's just hard to find.

Here you go:

http://8tracks.com/deigratiaregina/christian-independent-different

also on 8-tracks, try searching for "christian" + "indie" or "alternative" or "independent"

If you like metal, there are some awesome christian metal bands out there (like Oh Sleeper & Underoath)

Personally, I also like Switchfoot, but they may not be to your taste.

Enjoy! There is a world of wonderful music out there waiting for you.

ALSO: I recommend Jon Foreman. (Lead singer of Switchfoot, but he does some other acoustic/indie stuff by himself which is really good.)

Also, Brooke Fraser.

This guy is SUPER indie--I only know about him because he sang at a church I used to go to once--but I've found that I really enjoy listening to his music, even though it's pretty simple acoustic stuff, and I think part of the reason is that his lyrics seem to be a pretty genuine reflection from him rather than the bland, unthoughtful lyrics of a lot of music that gets on Christian radio. (Not that he's a master lyricist or anything, his songs are still pretty simple, but they feel real to me.)

His name is Scott Phillips. No relation to the Creed drummer, AFAIK. http://www.reverbnation.com/scottphillips/songs I recommend trying out "The Empty," it's my favorite song I've heard of his.
