Isn't the definition of fetish something sexual? I know what you're talking about, I have some of my own, but I don't think that's the right word for it. Anyone know what the term is?

No. Traditionally, fetish means a particular sort of obsession.

I've just heard it called "having a thing for X", but I guess that's not exactly a term.

I'm not sure if there is a general meaning for the word, but what they currently teach in psychology as Fetish is a sexual disorder where a certain non-sexual stimuli is needed in order to reach orgasm for the individual that has it.
