I can see that some people would describe her as androgynous, and hence why the OP chose her image.


Unless you had a different reason for not liking her use...?

She wears suits and stuff yeah, but always low-cut stuff that shows off cleavage and whatnot, she still presents herself as being feminine (I would say "womanly") to a large extent. Not anywhere near being androgynous IMO

I agree. I just can see how the suit/hair combo, plus her height, causes some people to automatically think 'androgynous' and therefore choose her as an example of that though. It's a bit like people thinking that her and Dolph Lundgren were both gay and presented themselves as having a relationship with each other to disguise it: her appearance short-cuts to 'lesbian' for some people too.

Of course, it's nonsense, but some people have particular ideas (often through fashion and media) that certain words or looks denote something that they actually don't.

Really? She didn't use to but I haven't seen or heard anything about her in over 20 years. In the 80s she used to present as a man and even said as much in an interview on GMA or some show like that. She said she was uncomfortable wearing women's clothes or anything feminine. It's strange to me that she'd trade out men's dress shirts and ties for a low cut blouse under her suits.

I mean, there's an album cover where's she's wearing a men's suit jacket with nothing underneath, she's not doing anything to hide her breasts and to me that doesn't seem androgynous at all.

Sometimes presenting as a man =/= androgynous, and lots of people who present as female or who are female don't feel comfortable in women's clothing

We're also forgetting the fact that it was very en vogue for women to wear menswear in the eighties

(And yeah I haven't seen what she looks like lately or really heard anything about her recently)

She appeared in the Queen's diamond jubilee concert last year, and was truly bizarre. She looked very odd and the performance wasn't up to much.
