Certainly not. But I think the problem of self-proclaimed allies being less than helpful is nowhere near as serious as the problem of people letting homophobia, transphobia and biphobia happen -- because it's easier that way, or because they're afraid they'll say the wrong thing.

if you are not LGBTQ, you do not have a right to talk about LGBTQ issues. you are not an ally, you are the het/cis enemy. talking about LGBTQ issues in non-LGBTQ spaces is only harmful -- the so-called "allies" get good feelings from their appropriation and the rest of the world is too fucking bigoted to care so it's pointless.

nope sorry all people have a right to talk about all issues insofar as they're issues of justice, and principle, and humanity, and abstract right

that doesn't mean that they have a right to be in every space, or that personal experience doesn't give knowledge and experience which makes some people more knowledgeable than others, or that you should keep talking while being an ignorant asshole. but there's literally no issue which some people don't get to talk about.

When some people make ___phobic comments, those who disagree - yes, they do exist - need to say something, even if they happen to be straight and/or cis.

And if you think people shouldn't talk about LGBTQ issues in non-LGBTQ spaces, then whato you think this discussion is? Last time I checked, f!s wasn't specifically a community for LGBTQ issues. Neither are places where laws are made, changed, passed or challenged, so your idea of where people get to talk about LGBTQ matters seems like a surefire way not to bring about any changes whatsoever to society.

Exactly. I might like to give folk who consider themselves allies the benefit of a doubt, but I hate and very nearly want them to fuck off once they start with, "Oh, so you mean I can't talk about this now, is that it? I'm not allowed to have opinions???" or whatever other bullshit that tries to paint themselves as completely in the right with whatever misguided junk they want to spout.

Being told I'm not REALLY queer by a straight person is bullshit. Just as it would be if another LBGT* person said it. If I call them out on that and get a lecture from them, yeah. I'm going to doubt their motives. And it happens all the time if you're outside the binary. So, enjoy your corner of the world I guess. Your experience and mine seem to differ greatly.
