But if those self proclaimed allies don't LISTEN when someone they say they want to help says "No, that's not true, that's offensive", I have to doubt their sincerity. And believe me, I wish it was such a tiny little problem.

Exactly. I might like to give folk who consider themselves allies the benefit of a doubt, but I hate and very nearly want them to fuck off once they start with, "Oh, so you mean I can't talk about this now, is that it? I'm not allowed to have opinions???" or whatever other bullshit that tries to paint themselves as completely in the right with whatever misguided junk they want to spout.

Being told I'm not REALLY queer by a straight person is bullshit. Just as it would be if another LBGT* person said it. If I call them out on that and get a lecture from them, yeah. I'm going to doubt their motives. And it happens all the time if you're outside the binary. So, enjoy your corner of the world I guess. Your experience and mine seem to differ greatly.
