I see fandom/ur fav gay OTP as a means through which many have come to understand lgbt issues and join the fight for marriage equality - but you've still got a few critical thinking hoops to jump through if you think it's okay to make your gay otp the symbol of the fight for equality, as opposed to, say, real people who you respect as such and not just because they star in porn you read.

But a lot girls who do this are young and immature, so I feel the main tragedy is that they're connecting their fandom interests with their real name or picture on a public forum doing really stupid and embarrassing things. They don't need to flamed now; the regret they feel in a few years will be worse than anything you can say to them.
