I'd say your best bet is probably calling the hospital and like anon above me said, make it clear you don't want personal details, but just to know if he's okay.

Also, I'm glad there were people there who witnessed the accident and people like you and your mother who could stay with him until help arrived. Being in an accident like that would be terrible. :

Yeah, that's the one good thing I'm taking from the experience. Other than calling 911 - which I swear 20 other people called at the same time because the lines were busy for over 30sec - I didn't do much just because there were already so many other people helping.

The accident happened in a very congested part of town, so within the first minute you had people handing over shirts and towels to help stop the blood flood, another woman started directing traffic so the firetruck/police could get through. Thank God, one of the witnesses was a nurse, so she pretty much took charge of things until the EMTs arrived.

Even some foreign tourists who had been walking stopped and asked me if there was anything they could do to help.

ntayrt, That is awesome, I'm really glad to hear about so many people willing to help out of the blue like that.
