Well, yeah, fate's simplifying it too much. What I meant was something along the lines of "I was raised in this environment by these people, and it's part of me as much as I'm accepted as part of it".

I think not wanting to lose a shared history and traditions is good, just that I'm wary of some people who try to do that by (what comes across as) looking down on or villifying those who don't have an agenda or power to erase said history and traditions. That and "hey, back in the day we had less sanitation and vital resources, and more crime, but we had a stronger sense of community!" Of course, if anyone actually is trying to erase histories, I'm not for it.

I guess it all just worries me in another way as well because I feel I'm not 'inside' the argument.
