Re: heritage?

... C sounds a lot like Singapore. Unless I'm way off base and there's another country out there that's pretty much exactly like Singapore, heh.

I don't know. There's something to be said for having a historical heritage etc, but at the same time, I'm also quite sympathetic towards those who feel in limbo. It's a symptom of globalisation, I think. You get more people who're somewhat ambivalent towards the idea of cultural heritage, just because there's so much exposure to so many other cultural heritages. For some people (myself included) that can lead to feeling less rooted in whatever culture you were predominantly exposed to/felt a connection to. Doesn't mean you're somehow less than those people who do feel a definite attachment to a certain culture. Does that make sense?

Anyway, you're not alone is what I was attempting to say. =P

Yep, you're right! Probably pretty obvious to anyone who knows about its current situation.

Like you said, globalisation's making exposure to several cultures more common in a lot of places, but at the same time ecomomic uncertainty tends to make people more protective of their "own", which is worrying for me and others.

Sometimes I do feel like not being particularly attached to one culture makes my opinion on these matters less credible because maybe I don't understand things fully, but I also feel like I might be seen as putting on airs for being fortunate enough to have a supposedly wider perspective.

Anyway, I've never really expressed these things to anyone irl, so commenting here made me feel a bit better. Thanks, both of you :)
