If you want to be spoiled, that's cool. I know if I'm reading fic and it's a long one (multichapter 50k+ words or thereabouts), I'll read bits of the last chapter because if I'm reading fic and it suddenly took a turn for the worse with breaking up a ship or character death then I don't want to spend that much time on a fic. However, with media that's not fic I won't want spoilers.

As long as you respect that other people might not want to be spoiled, enjoy fandom however you want. For warnings.. I think it should be on a case by case thing, but I'd probably want a warning on there for character death.

I often peek at the last chapter because I read novels, and the last chapter often provides a good indication as to whether the author has actually delivered a novel and not a poorly structured ramble written to sell the next book.

I agree with this, I said the same in a comment upthread, I think fan fiction is a different thing to non fannish media, I wouldn't spoil a RL novel. I just have zero interest in wasting my time on fan fic that splits up my OTP or killing my favourite character. I need to be warned in advance.
