UNSPOILER ALERT! (Or, people enjoy things differently, get over yourself)
There are some people who can't enjoy something if they know where it's going.
There are some people who can't enjoy something if they don't know where it's going.
And they are both okay.
Neither one's attitude "correct". Neither one is "wrong" for having this pattern of enjoying fictional works. People experience and enjoy things differently, and that's all fine.
Authors who don't warn at all (and don't CNTW), most of us agree will agree are assholes. And people who overwarn and/or spread spoilers without warning for those? Most of us will also agree are assholes.
There's a reason why we usually have a Spoilers and/or Warnings section(s) in fic headers: so that people who want to know these things can look, and people who don't can skip it. Unless authors bold and amplify and emphasize these warnings and spoilers to the point you can't not read them, then this system is the best way of keeping everyone happy, or at least as many people happy as possible. If you want to know what happens, you can, and if you don't want to know what happens, you also can. See how this works?
Now, I have seen some of those authors who a.) don't warn, and b.) don't indicate that they don't warn (i.e. CNTW). But as far as I have seen, they are few and far in between (but who knows, maybe this is different from fandom to fandom - what fandom are you in?). The vast majority will warn in some capacity.
Granted, this isn't perfect. But really, it's better than any of the alternatives.
