I don't know, considering how I'm about to tl;dr all over this thread I'm probably the evil one? *strokes goatee*

Reading all the stuff in this thread I think the difference is that I am reasonably picky about what I read/watch/care about, and I since I don't have any triggers or especially sensitive issues the things that really bother me are badly done, problematic narratives. I know what you're talking about because I recently read a fic that was, intentionally, about an abusive dysfunctional relationship - but since this is FANFIC about a major fandom OTP I was just so so unsure if the author was being incredibly creepy on purpose I kept on skipping ahead, I just wanted to know what was going on, and I didn't enjoy it at all. And when I watched Aliens I insisted my BF warn me every time someone was about to die. SO I UNDERSTAND. But that rarely happens to me.

I trust some creators, and if I don't trust them I'm unlikely to watch it. I suspect I read and watch less than many people in fandom :\

I think this is a problem for a lot of people in fandom because we get involved in stories to a much greater degree than other people. I can see why people have such strong opinions on it.
