Oh noes an anthropomorphized series which touches upon but is not focused around the world wars. Why can't they treat the subject with dignity and respect like all the other series I love lol

Yeah why can't we just lust after anthropomorphized Germany in peace?

Honestly I have no beef with the author of Hetalia except that they gave Japan a free pass. I saw an episode and it was silly.

Hetalia fans, though? Some are just fine, lots seem to be really really really into stanning the Axis.

When you say "stanning the Axis" do you mean the Hetalia characters that make up the Axis, or the actual real life version? Because if it's the former, I don't see the problem. They're fictional characters from a gag comic loosely based on historical events. If it's the latter, though... is anyone really that stupid?

What's the major difference?

I mean once people start going to conventions in fascist outfits and getting angry whenever anyone brings up the actual war in a conversation about a parody of said war they're idiots. I mean you have a bunch of people who don't actually understand the history getting that history through... a very yaoi-ish fandom. I mean I'm sure that's not what the writer intended; that's like blaming Bronies on Lauren Faust. But it's a problem.

Imagine if people celebrated their love of The Producers by writing hurt/comfort about Franz Liebkind that they take terribly seriously

I'd say the major difference is that Hetalia started off as a thing about WWII, but it didn't stay that way. Obviously the reasonable fans aren't going to write fluffy shipping fic about those characters during that particular time period when there are so many other points in history to choose from.

Well yeah. That's why I don't have a beef with all Hetalia fans. I warmed up to it a bit when I realized the author was doing other eras, but it still bugs me that they kind of handwave away the horrors.

I mean you could actually do something interesting with that, but no let's just write nazi yaoi.

>implying we shouldn't write nazi yaoi

lol tbh though the Allies are a lot more popular than the Axis in the fandom, for the most part.

Also he doesn't really give Japan a free pass more than anyone else. Actually Japan is one of the only characters that he actually shows doing something outright terrible.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-09 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Gave Japan a free pass? Dude, Japan gets it just as bad as the rest of the cast, if not worse. At least in the dub, the show has no qualms about majorly satirizing Japanese stereotypes.

What else do you expect from a dumb troll like her?
She even said she has only watched one episode of the anime.

I didn't know Japan was in it more than a couple times--someone misled me there.

Yeah why can't I? He's cute and his voice actors have really sexy voices. He is - like the other countries - only losely assocciated with his "boss" at that time, so why the fuck should I care about touchy knowitalls like you? ;)

Ladies and gentlemen, this this is bad kind of Hetalia fan. Note that they say Germany is loosely associated with Hitler.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The one time Hetalia mentions Hitler is in a scene were Germany thinks he's crazy. Congrats on knowing what you're talking about.

this but unironically
