I don't know, I've read a lot in fic but I'd still be pretty shocked by anyone who actually experienced it.

I mean, I read a lot of fic about supernatural people or abilities but I'd still damn well be shocked if I met a shapeshifter or whatever.

I agree with you!

Fantasy and Reality are two different things, and what counts as unusual in RL does not necessarily count as unusual in Fanfics.

I don't know if the analogy works; you'd be surprised by a shapeshifter because it defies the laws of this natural world as you know them, to the point that knowing such a creature exists would basically be a paradigm shift for you in terms of what is and is not possible.

On the other hand, you, I, and OP already know that the fic she's describing exists, that it comes from the minds of real human beings out there, and given the infinite nature of human tastes and curiosities out there, if it's been thought of, it's not a big leap to guess that someone's tried it.

Yeah, the analogy was more amusing than exact. Generally speaking anything I say is more amusing (to me) than exact or accurate.

Still, knowing someone's tried it and knowing your flat mate does it regularly are different things. Here, maybe a better analogy: I know that people do go to space, but I'd be pretty shocked if my flat mate came up and said they've been to space.
