Genuinely curious about this.

The answer most people would give in public is going to be no because anything else makes you look conceited beyond belief, but deep down in an anonymous environment what would you say?

I'm often told I am, but I honestly don't think I am. I'm just good at memorizing things and remembering weird things people say which is much different from being smart in my book.

Yeah.

However "smarter than most people" isn't something to be proud of; I'd wager most people here who can put together a couple coherent sentences are smarter than most people. Most people aren't very bright.

Nope. I legitimately thought I was retarded for a long time. People think I'm joking, but I was pretty proud the day that I was able to realize and admit to myself that I am of average intelligence.

Test scores would indicate that I am in the traditional (IQ) sense.

But I bet that goes for a lot of people in fandom. We tend towards nerditude.

Depends on what you mean by "smarter". If we're defining intelligence as whatever IQ measures, then yes, I'm more intelligent than most people. Doesn't mean I'm better than others at much of anything other than taking tests, though. It also doesn't mean I have more common sense than most people (I don't).

Yes, and I'd say it in public. But I find people in general rather stupid.

In some ways, definitely, in others, not so much. I mean, academically I have always been Mensa-level, but when it comes to emotional and social smarts, there are lampposts that catch up faster than me.

I scored higher than 100 on an IQ test years ago, which means that I'm statistically more intelligent than half the population. I feel that I have more common sense than a lot of people, but whether that's "most" people, I couldn't say. The dumbasses do tend to be louder, after all. On the other hand, I'm quite at a loss at most intellectual specialties. I do have a broad vocabulary and am a skilled writer, and I have a knack for psychology, but I have trouble picking up other languages, including computer languages, and math outside of statistics is rather mystifying to me. My memory isn't so great, so while I can understand concepts, I often have trouble remembering details, and because I learn best by doing, by limited ability to process verbal directions may make me seem rather dim to people.

Seriously, everyone is smarter than people in something... I suck at maths (oh the irony), so I am not smarter than most people when it comes to that. I'm also seriously ignorant when it comes to current affairs in Norway so most Norwegians would know more than me when it comes to that. I could go on, but you get the gist?

Varies day by day. Some days I feel smart, other days I feel like I'm dumber than a box of rocks. I've always been academic, but I work hard.

I taught myself to read at age 2, scored perfect on an IQ test that went up to 175, scored in the 99th percentile when I took the SATs in 6th grade, got the highest score in the state and the highest score ever recorded at the testing center when I got around to taking the GED...

But most of the time I still wind up calling myself a moron, because clearly whatever intelligence I have, I don't use on a regular basis. :P Most other people seem to know how to do normal things and get around in life a lot better than I do, even if I'm good with logic problems and physics and a fast learner and whatnot.

Given the population that I have to sample from (i.e., my high school) - yes.

However, given that it's a high school, most of them also have no clue what the above sentence means.

I seem to be very good at giving the impression that I'm smarter than most. I've had people telling me I am most of my life, and I don't think I'd hesitate to say I am in public...

I'm pretty shit at understanding people though so I don't know if it's going to get me anywhere.

It can vary. When I was in college, I felt not terribly smart, as I had a lot of trouble, mostly due to mental health issues. After no longer being surrounded by academics and grad students, that stopped being an issue. So yes, I think I'm smarter than most people.

A lot of the time I do feel very smart, smarter than most people--but then there are plenty of times when I feel like the stupidest person in the whole wide world. So, uh, it varies.

In terms of intellect/IQ? Yeah. That's just... a thing I'm good at. Everybody has certain skills, and one of mine is that I'm smart.

Interpersonally? Social anxiety kind of throws an enormous monkeywrench into things.

I have a very high IQ, which means I'm more intelligent than most of the adults in my country. I don't think I'm smarter than the same number of people, though.
