As a counterpoint to the above

(Anonymous) 2013-04-09 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Do you consider yourself to have more 'emotional intelligence' than most people?

Lmao, I think you're forgetting we're on the Internet.

I once took an online test to this effect, and it said I did. But an analytical test and the real world are two different things. I can understand when I think about things, but on the spot? Haha...that's hit or miss.

That said, sometimes I wonder if (neurotypical) people's inability to have some damn tact stems from their low emotional understanding. If that's the case, then yeah, I may have a higher-than average emotional intelligence.

I get along great with most people, so yes?

Except I suck at reading body language, so no?

Hahahah, and that is a flat-out no. No no no no. Socially and emotionally I'm the dumbest person in the room at any given moment.

What's the pc term for functionally retarded?

"ill_omened" is a good one.

I've heard the further you are way from the average intelligence, the harder it is for people to fit in. Wonder how true that is.

Pretty true, if my school is anything to go by. We're essentially a school full of students with ridiculously high IQs, but also ridiculously low social skills. On the bright side, that means we all fit in with each other pretty well. :D

Sometimes I like to believe so, but most of the time definitely no.

God no. Robot all the way.

sa

just thought I'd add that I find online interaction much more stressful than IRL. This seems to be the opposite of many people.

Re: As a counterpoint to the above

(Anonymous) 2013-04-09 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Do you know why?

Re: As a counterpoint to the above

(Anonymous) 2013-04-09 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Irl even if I don't understand social things most of the time, I can observe and life is full of situations where there's a pretty standard topic and script etc.
Online seems like a big free for all where you never know who's listening or what people really mean... I've only de lurked, slightly, recently. I deleted my Facebook.

In terms of EQ, I'm an idiot.

Depends on my confidence level, usually. If I'm sitting in a room with someone I know well, then I'm above-average in that situation. Usually. If I'm around strangers, or on the phone, or in a setting outside my comfort zone? Fuck no.

Same here. If I manage to exude coolness, or whatever other positive traits, to strangers I have to be around for long periods of time, it's because I'm trying super hard and I'm all quailing on the inside pulling off a facade 8(

Although I have no problems with phones actually. I thrived in a call centre. It might have to do with how internet-like it is for me?

I think I can "read" other people's emotions pretty well, but fuck if I know what to do with the information.
