To Dean being on Earth, Sam's journey to Hell and back should have lasted barely a few minutes since every month on Earth is like a decade in Hell. Dean wouldn't have had time to get Benny. The Reaper shouldn't have met Crowley, because, again, no time.
Not one thing in that episode followed the show's eight years of canon. That was just a bad, bad episode.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:41 am (UTC)(link)There was so much potential with Meg. We've still never gotten answers about why Azazel was what he was, or how she came to be considered his 'child', and she was in the best position to give them to us.
Also, the history involved - she was the first demon the boys actually got to know personally, she was one of the first big antagonists. It would have been great storytelling for her to have a role as the show winds down.
But nope. She's just killed off for cheap dramatic effect.

Dead.
Because you are right Cas and Dean's relationship is about family. Cas is an honorary Winchester. And being a Winchester means that moment someone has romantic feelings about you, that person is DOOMED!
Dammit, Meg. Why did you have to have a crush?

Anyway, somebody who's been following the latest season more closely than I have answer this: how bad/good is it and what exactly is happening? People on Tumblr seem to be all over it, going all 'Yes, Destiel is gonna be canon this season for sure!!!' but I see a lot of mixed opinions around here.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)so.
also the "dean/cas canon omg!" people are just wishful thinking. it's still not happening, but dean is fully acknowledging that cas is part of the family and he cares about him.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 12:16 am (UTC)(link)I do wonder how the "it's soooo canon" ones rationalize stuff like this away. I'm guessing it's some combination of "The writers are writing Cas badly!" and pretending it didn't happen, with bonus misogynistic slurs. I'd go look, but I've lost enough faith in humanity today already...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)Well, of course it was canon

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:56 am (UTC)(link)Azazel. Why was he a yellow-eyed demon? Why was he the only one? How was Meg his 'daughter'? Was it just an apprenticeship situation, or did he have the ability to sire her (and her short-lived brother) somehow? Meg could have given us these answers, and when she mentioned visiting the crypts with him in this episode, I was beside myself with glee, thinking we were actually going to get them.
Meg was the first demon we ever really 'met' in the series, the first one with an actual personality, the first one the boys formed a relationship. She's played an important role in most of the plots since (aiding Azazel and Lucifer, fighting Crowley, defeating the Leviathans).
Now the show is winding down. (I'd be surprised if the next season weren't the last...then again, I've said that before.) It would have been amazing to see her take a major role - particularly since their current quest would put an end to their dealings with hell and demons for good.
An episode in which they finally get their ducks in a row to seal off hell, and the realization by all involved that Meg will be banished with all the other demons when they do, that kind of bittersweetness, and the Winchesters' involvement with all this ending with the very demon with whom it had begun...now, that would have been a worthwhile way to kill off the character. That would have been awesome storytelling.
This was just sucky and cheap.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 08:18 am (UTC)(link)And then Season 8 happened.
Oh god, there is so much Dean/Cas slash in season 8 that it actually converted me. It might not officially be canon, but there is NO WAY the writers are putting that in by accident :-)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 10:02 am (UTC)(link)Shipping Dean/Cas doesn't mean you think they're secretly fucking, it doesn't mean you think it's only a matter of time before they become canon, and it doesn't mean you think neither of them can be interested in anyone else ever. I'm not denying there are shippers out there who hate Meg or who are convinced Dean/Cas is becoming canon any episode now. But most of the people I know feel the same way I do.
Shipping them for me is believing that they love each other (and are in love with each other), and that they would be happier together than without each other. I also think that they have a lot of shit to work through before they could ever get there, I think Dean would have trouble acknowledging how he feels about Cas, and I think as long as there is some kind of apocalypse or war going on around them their love life isn't gonna be their priority. In other words, I think that even though they're at a point where they both realise they're in love with each other, it would take a while to do anything with it.
And that's why I don't mind if they, in that time, find other ways to be happy. If Cas is interested in exploring sex and is attracted to Meg, I say go for it. I'm not just invested in the ship, I'm invested in the characters separately and it would be nice to see them enjoy something. Would I, in a world where Meg doesn't die, want them to have a commited relationship and get married? No, and not just because it would be OOC, but because I want Dean/Cas to be endgame. But yes, I would want Cas and Meg to get some pizza, flirt, and even have sex if that's what Cas wants. I think they'd have fun together.
