I hated that episode because everyone was OOC. I hated the most recent episode because it was OOC and there were about 400 plot holes.

Plot holes and bad math.

To Dean being on Earth, Sam's journey to Hell and back should have lasted barely a few minutes since every month on Earth is like a decade in Hell. Dean wouldn't have had time to get Benny. The Reaper shouldn't have met Crowley, because, again, no time.

Not one thing in that episode followed the show's eight years of canon. That was just a bad, bad episode.

Of course the fact that there was a door to Purgatory, that apparently you only need a reaper to get into. That Crowley knew the guy. That Sam was able to find Bobby so quickly. That they don't lock the doors on souls, even though Crowley specifically captured Bobby. Or how Benny found Sam so quickly.

Rogue Reapers that posses humans. All of that is just wrong. Reapers being scared of Crawley? Reapers being killable? They are Agents of Death. They are not demons. WTF?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
i should've seen it coming that they weren't going to continue that storyline and were going to kill her off right away.

i'm still kind of mad they pulled that shit (for the 1000000x time)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I know. The whole 'Hey, remember this character? Wasn't she cool? Well, here she is again, playing an integral part in the current plot and being her usual awesome self...now say bye-bye!' routine is beyond manipulative and irritating.

There was so much potential with Meg. We've still never gotten answers about why Azazel was what he was, or how she came to be considered his 'child', and she was in the best position to give them to us.

Also, the history involved - she was the first demon the boys actually got to know personally, she was one of the first big antagonists. It would have been great storytelling for her to have a role as the show winds down.

But nope. She's just killed off for cheap dramatic effect.

Meg and Cas are canon. Of course, this being Supernatural what happened to Meg?

Dead.

Because you are right Cas and Dean's relationship is about family. Cas is an honorary Winchester. And being a Winchester means that moment someone has romantic feelings about you, that person is DOOMED!

Dammit, Meg. Why did you have to have a crush?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-04-10 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Though to be fair, if you go by what many fandom members of Supernatural think, being family certainly doesn't mean you can't have sex with them.

I love Dean/Cas, but I also adore Cas/Meg. I don't get why people insist on making that epiosde solely about Dean/Cas. There was a lot more going on, and more than one ship can exist at a time. Sigh, fandom.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
There was some nice Sam/Meg interaction, too, not to mention Meg being awesome in general. I started to get a nasty feeling about halfway in that they were only giving her all this good material to make her death an even bigger letdown, and I'm sorry I was right.

I haven't seen the latest episode (I actually haven't seen most of season eight yet), but I never liked the Meg/Castiel ship. Until the episode where she came back and I found I actually love it. And then Meg died, of course. But at least my ship was canon for a while!

Anyway, somebody who's been following the latest season more closely than I have answer this: how bad/good is it and what exactly is happening? People on Tumblr seem to be all over it, going all 'Yes, Destiel is gonna be canon this season for sure!!!' but I see a lot of mixed opinions around here.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been enjoying the season, personally. The quality fluctuates a lot, and there have been some definite missteps and gaping plotholes, but overall it is better and imo more watchable than season 7 (although that doesn't take a hell of a lot). I find that when the episodes are good, they're really good, but when they're not they're like the lower-end, more forgettable episodes from season 7. A lot of it depends on who's writing the episodes, too. Edlund and Robbie Thompson are generally pretty solid, while the racist truck people and Adam Glass tend to be on the terrible end of the scale, and Loflin and Dabb tend to fluctuate between good and bad. It's not on par with seasons 1-5, but I'd still put it ahead of both seasons 6 and 7.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
it started out a lot better in light of seasons 6 and 7, minus the random awful flashbacks about Sam while Dean was gone, but the writing a slowly going more and more to shit.

so.

also the "dean/cas canon omg!" people are just wishful thinking. it's still not happening, but dean is fully acknowledging that cas is part of the family and he cares about him.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
if you don't take them seriously the rationalizations are fun to read. XD

I do +1 about them being about family. That's what I like about them \o/

I'm neither here nor there on the Cas/Meg ship, but I am sad she died. She was badass and Supernatural doesn't have enough badass chicks on it anymore.

RIP Bella, Jo, and Ellen

I was so hoping that Meg would be the one non-Winchester to make it all the way through the series. THANK YOU FOR CRUSHING MY DREAM, WRITERS. Especially when it was basically just a cheap shot to toy with people's emotions. SIGH.

Fair point. But Shippers gonna ship, what can you do? At least you find it amusing.

I do wonder how the "it's soooo canon" ones rationalize stuff like this away. I'm guessing it's some combination of "The writers are writing Cas badly!" and pretending it didn't happen, with bonus misogynistic slurs. I'd go look, but I've lost enough faith in humanity today already...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
i've watched the season with a half eye, so all i got from it was that meg hooked up with castiel when he was amnesiac in the hospital (which is kinda creepy - and not something i particularly need to rationalize off).

Well, of course it was canon

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
And then she died, and shippers no longer have to worry about writing her out of the story. :) It makes it much easier for us, you know, when rival ships become canon in Supernatural.

I don't ship Cas/anyone, so I don't have a horse in this race. However, I do on principle choose to ignore really bad writing, so in my head Meg is alive. Because the episode and the show are actually better and more coherent if she lives. Stupid show.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
This. All of this. There was so damn much left to explore with her.

Azazel. Why was he a yellow-eyed demon? Why was he the only one? How was Meg his 'daughter'? Was it just an apprenticeship situation, or did he have the ability to sire her (and her short-lived brother) somehow? Meg could have given us these answers, and when she mentioned visiting the crypts with him in this episode, I was beside myself with glee, thinking we were actually going to get them.

Meg was the first demon we ever really 'met' in the series, the first one with an actual personality, the first one the boys formed a relationship. She's played an important role in most of the plots since (aiding Azazel and Lucifer, fighting Crowley, defeating the Leviathans).

Now the show is winding down. (I'd be surprised if the next season weren't the last...then again, I've said that before.) It would have been amazing to see her take a major role - particularly since their current quest would put an end to their dealings with hell and demons for good.

An episode in which they finally get their ducks in a row to seal off hell, and the realization by all involved that Meg will be banished with all the other demons when they do, that kind of bittersweetness, and the Winchesters' involvement with all this ending with the very demon with whom it had begun...now, that would have been a worthwhile way to kill off the character. That would have been awesome storytelling.

This was just sucky and cheap.

Heh. I used to agree with this, and I honestly never shipped anyone in SPN, since the het pairings are rather boring and I just didn't understand the slash shippers.

And then Season 8 happened.

Oh god, there is so much Dean/Cas slash in season 8 that it actually converted me. It might not officially be canon, but there is NO WAY the writers are putting that in by accident :-)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'll give my perspective on this, as a Dean/Cas shipper. I liked the episode, I thought it was great for my ship, I liked Meg/Castiel in it, and I hate that they killed off Meg.

Shipping Dean/Cas doesn't mean you think they're secretly fucking, it doesn't mean you think it's only a matter of time before they become canon, and it doesn't mean you think neither of them can be interested in anyone else ever. I'm not denying there are shippers out there who hate Meg or who are convinced Dean/Cas is becoming canon any episode now. But most of the people I know feel the same way I do.

Shipping them for me is believing that they love each other (and are in love with each other), and that they would be happier together than without each other. I also think that they have a lot of shit to work through before they could ever get there, I think Dean would have trouble acknowledging how he feels about Cas, and I think as long as there is some kind of apocalypse or war going on around them their love life isn't gonna be their priority. In other words, I think that even though they're at a point where they both realise they're in love with each other, it would take a while to do anything with it.
And that's why I don't mind if they, in that time, find other ways to be happy. If Cas is interested in exploring sex and is attracted to Meg, I say go for it. I'm not just invested in the ship, I'm invested in the characters separately and it would be nice to see them enjoy something. Would I, in a world where Meg doesn't die, want them to have a commited relationship and get married? No, and not just because it would be OOC, but because I want Dean/Cas to be endgame. But yes, I would want Cas and Meg to get some pizza, flirt, and even have sex if that's what Cas wants. I think they'd have fun together.
