I've noticed it being a lot more common in media lately. I guess it's an acceptance thing? I find it very distracting because I'm a detail person, and I notice things like that (same with moles, piercings, whatever).

It's interesting though... I wonder how that happens. Some people (read: Madonna) I don't recall having the gap years ago, but it seems to grow as they age.... and other people whose career I've followed, had bigger gaps in their youth that have since narrowed. Teeth are weird.

Teeth move. If you remove your wisdom teeth, sometimes your teeth will grow a bit wider apart. And some celebrities can afford braces that are nearly invisible.

I watched an interview with Madonna where she talked about having a fake thing that clipped over her teeth to disguise her gap and that she'd always worn it. She took it out on the show and then after that she never seemed to wear it again.
