I've noticed it being a lot more common in media lately. I guess it's an acceptance thing? I find it very distracting because I'm a detail person, and I notice things like that (same with moles, piercings, whatever).

It's interesting though... I wonder how that happens. Some people (read: Madonna) I don't recall having the gap years ago, but it seems to grow as they age.... and other people whose career I've followed, had bigger gaps in their youth that have since narrowed. Teeth are weird.

I'm the opposite, I like tooth gaps. Well, it's not like a tooth gap instantly makes a person attractive but it does make them a lot more endearing to me, usually because I see celebrities with them and I know they have the money to get it fixed but they choose not to.

Sorry, I worded this poorly. It's not so much that I can't take people with gaps between their teeth seriously but rather, well, I'm usually too distracted by their teeth to take them as seriously as I should.

The series I'm referring to is Torchwood (though True Blood was another), and I just can't get swept up in any of Gwen's emotional scenes because I become so distracted by her teeth.

I have no idea why it really bothers me so much, but it does.

I didn't find gaps attractive...and then I got a huge crush on a girl with a slight gap. Big ones I'm still not wild about, but small ones now win me over. You never know what'll happen, OP.
