I'm just questioning the logic of wearing what feels good regardless of what's appropriate. Transparent dress with a bra and panties then, I'm sure that'd go over great next time we have a board meeting

Appropriate is the key word here. It's an awards show - anything is appropriate. The more shocking the better. Board meeting? Not appropriate.

I just don't get why you care to police what people can and cannot wear. If you don't want to wear something, don't. Nobody is forcing you to wear transparent clothes and nobody is forcing you to look at others wearing it. Look away and let it be.

Also I didn't realize the object of dressing for awards shows was to shock people and not to just look as glamorous and amazing as possible, is this a new development

Exactly. She's free to dress and behave however she likes, and everyone else is free to comment on it. It's amazing how some people don't get that concept.

That's not equivalent. It's about dressing in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable in whatever surroundings you are dressing for. You're obviously not going to feel comfortable at work in a bra and panties.

I don't know if it matters to you, but she was asked to put on that dress back on for photos, unaware that it was see through:

He said it was a lot MORE see-through, which implies that it wasn't a shock, just more than they realized. I get that sometimes fabric behaves in startling ways under a powerful flash, but there's now way she didn't realize the dress was semi-transparent in the first place.
