We're expecting it to be as good as it used to be. I don't think that's "expecting too much".

But seriously -- the main reason people bitch about it so much isn't that the last two seasons were bad (even though they were, in many people's opinion), but due to the fact that Moffat split season 6 in half and aired the halves months apart, delayed the season 7 premiere six months, and split that in half across several months with a rather game-changing Christmas special between the two halves. It's a perfect recipe for heightened wank.
