...I've only watched a couple of episodes of Doctor Who years ago and have some background knowledge on what it's about from back when I used to have really close friends in the fandom, but...

...I really, really, really, REALLY need to know the context of this. Preferably right now. O.o

Spoilers for pretty much all of season seven so far.

The newest companion, Clara Oswin Oswald, first appeared in "Asylum of the Daleks" as an amateur souffle-maker. It turned out at the end of the episode that she was a Dalek the whole episode. She kills herself at the end of it and another version of her or something (ask Moffat) dies at the end of the Christmas special, so the Doctor takes her as a companion to figure out why she lives and dies at multiple points in space and time.

Spoilers for series 7 ahead!

Basically the Doctor gets stuck on a Dalek prison planet. He starts talking to a girl named Clara on a radio com who says that she's trapped and needs the Doctor's help to escape. The Doctor spends the episode looking for her.

The twist is at the end of the episode where it turns out that Clara is actually a Dalek. She had been turned into a Dalek, but retained her human memories making her think that she was still human and trapped inside a building surrounded by Daleks (when it was her thought trapped inside a Dalek case).

She's not currently a Dalek, but she may become one in the future. Or another version of her will. Or something. Clara's backstory is pretty confusing right now and a major theme of the rest of the series is the Doctor trying to figure out what the hell her deal is.

The Doctor and his companions were kidnapped by the Dalek Parliament and ordered to disengage the force field on the Dalek Asylum which can only be done from within. The entire time they tried to navigate through the Asylum a cute (well only we could see her) girl was helping them along, named Oswin. She claimed to have been stuck in the Asylum for a year on a crashed ship, she was part of some fleet called Alaska. They set out to save her as well, and she was a computer genius so she was able to help them discover alternative routes and not get killed by the baddest of the bad Daleks. The entire time she was talking about souffles and shit and the Doctor was like 'where did you get the milk where did you get the eggs' then in the end when he goes to save her he finds out she's a Dalek, that her story actually was true but she was converted. And she was too resistant to give her mind over.
