Sure, but most people aren't raised to believe they're part animal, whereas most religious people belong to a religious family where it's sort of treated like a given.

Also, there are thousands of years worth of people believing in a religion and just this guy thinking he's some sort of real life werewolf.

There are lots of religions that teach that animal souls can take over a human body.

It can generally be observed that most of the most zealous of religious people are ones who were converted. This kind of belies the claim that religion is different on those grounds.

As for history, that's effectively an "appeal to ancient wisdom" - "if it survived that long it must have something to it!".
