As far as I've seen, saying you're religious on the internet (or better yet, saying you're Christian) makes you the butt of all kinds of jokes and the target of all kinds of 'imaginary friend in the sky' jokes.

But aside from that, I think the reason is because the notion of otherkin is so unusually to people. It sounds like something that spawned from the Twilight craze so of course people on F!S are gonna rip it apart. I believe in people having close ties to animal spirits as well and the idea of believing that you have a wolf-self inhabiting your body still makes me go o.O

Sure, but most people aren't raised to believe they're part animal, whereas most religious people belong to a religious family where it's sort of treated like a given.

Also, there are thousands of years worth of people believing in a religion and just this guy thinking he's some sort of real life werewolf.

It can generally be observed that most of the most zealous of religious people are ones who were converted. This kind of belies the claim that religion is different on those grounds.

As for history, that's effectively an "appeal to ancient wisdom" - "if it survived that long it must have something to it!".

Personally my problem is with the OP comparing their situation to racism, not the belief itself. It's acceptable not because it's "crazy" but because *there is no discrimination against otherkin*. Most people don't even know it exists.
