Or, they're mentally ill. In which case, it's not really cool to make fun of them. You wouldn't make fun of a person with schizophrenia's delusions or a person with bipolar's mania, right? Why is the OP here fair game, then?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Otherkin isn't an illness. It is just daydreams combined with stupid.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
People used to say that gay people were mentally ill. And don't get me started on what they used to do to trans* people. I don't know much about Otherkin but to just right them off as stupid or daydreams then you have to question anyone who doesn't fit the "binary norm".

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-04-12 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Um. No you don't. Why don't you try again while I go right some more otherkin and transethnics off.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Transethnics." Is that... is that what I think it is? What is wrong with people?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that this particular diagnosis was nonsense/based on bigotry does not invalidate all other diagnoses.

Nor does that validate all other diagnoses, least of all amateur ones. Or, indeed, "professional" ones made without a proper evaluation, since a diagnosis without talking to and evaluating the person concerned is unprofessional.

pffft. It's just like those people who claim to be "transracial" or something (I don't remember the exact word they use) that feel like they are "a german trapped in an american body" or some similar shit.

They deserve nothing but contempt.

thank you for the correct word! I just couldn't remember and really didn't feel like trying to look it up.

Oh god, I had mercifully forgotten what transethnic was. Whyyyyy?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"a german trapped in an american body"

lmao
these are hetalia fans, or?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, actually none of the cases I've run across are hetalia fans. Just idiots.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I.. had not heard this term before. I always wished I'd been born in another country though and felt a weird kinship with celebrities from that country.... shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Wishing you were born somewhere, and imagining a connection with someone from there =/= 'I'M REALLY A KOREAN IN A -insert western country'S BODY!'.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
When you start being delusional and thinking that you're really a German on the inside, then you have a problem. Until then, nothing wrong with an odd kinship. I always had a fondness for Italy myself.

I hadn't known about this term or any of this before now.

I'm not sure how to react to this. I just...

I think I need alcohol.

Help, I'm German-Irish-English trapped in a Irish-English-German body!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 05:54 am (UTC)(link)

Laughsnorted out loud at work...

Good job!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
...What the fucking shit?

Christ. Can we go back to the days before everybody had to have a label for their own personal insecurity, please?

Help! I am a Lichtenstein-ese trapped in the body of an Icelander!

Or transabled. I mean I'm totally transabled: I'm a able-bodied person, my body just hasn't caught up with fact yet. I keep telling it I don't need that cane, it just doesn't want to listen.

And it's probably a terribly stereotyped german trapped in an american body, too.
