(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)I cannot even tell you how many times I have heard this exact same argument to "justify" bashing POC, people with disabilities, etc. etc. both fictional and in real life. "Oh, it's nothing personal, I just don't want to see their disgusting [ loathsome racial slur ] face every day, so I would never hire/vote for/befriend them, but I can't help what I find attractive!"
And yes, before I became an adult I never believed this could be used to justify hiring or political decisions, but it happens behind closed doors all the time, in my personal day to day experience. "Wouldn't want an ugly person of color with no sex appeal representing the company. Nothing personal, but white people just have the charisma we are looking for. We want to bedazzle the customers with some eye candy, here!"
Sorry, but it hurts, and hearing it all the damn time in real life, I am sick of it.
I might argue that you shouldn't cruelly bash another human being because you don't personally want to screw them, but I guess that's too much to ask.
So, dear troll, you wanted wank, and here you go. Nicely gift wrapped just for you! Although seriously, thanks for giving me an excuse to vent.
OP
(Anonymous) 2013-04-12 12:54 am (UTC)(link)2. I'm a dude, but also a trans one (transitioned a few years ago and now living full time stealth as male though, and therefore stripped of all het privilege other than my ability to still get legally married everywhere), so depending on your beliefs about the validity of trans identities it might make me a fangirl, idk.
3. also (high-functioning) autistic.
4. I'm only 1/3 trolling.
4. I am however also a very self-hating person, such that your critique is oddly relevant - I've used similar arguments to justify my own oppression countless times, because I don't really like the fact that I exist, and I likewise don't blame people when they don't want to hire me or aren't attracted to me, because i realise that prejudice runs deep and is very hard to fight.
"Although seriously, thanks for giving me an excuse to vent."
you're welcome.
