Those zoology details have little place in this movie, though. Scar's mane is black because he is Evil and that is literally the whole reason.

Also, it's not just having a dark mane that is inherently attractive to lionesses, it's that dark manes tend to be a sign of good health. Scar is clearly not in good health despite his black mane, ergo, a turn-off to lady lions, so doesn't have to be pretty. Animals don't have the human luxury of being turned on by underweight dudes.
