But immediately before that, Kirk's last words before he fell asleep were "I wish I could forget." It's easy to see how Spock would have read that as consent.

Maybe not confirmed consent but I think Spock meant well. It was still wrong on some levels but also a good-for-everyone attitude on board. Bigger picture and all.

I agree. Kirk says he wants something to happen. McCoy indicates it would be good for something to happen. Spock makes the thing happen. It might be that he sees it as simply as that.

Not to get too Watsonian as well (I think 60s attitudes to consent are absolutely in play here), but Spock is the product of an exceptionally different culture, so even if rape culture is entirely vanished from Earth - and the series sadly doesn't indicate that - it would be a reasonable assumption that his understanding of human consent is not comprehensive.

Spock makes the thing happen. It might be that he sees it as simply as that.

This seems likely given that each season always has that one episode where Spock goes and does something that looks illogical/treasonous, but really just can't be bothered to explain everything.
