I...don't know how to broach it, but maybe when it comes it up try comparing it him handling money? Like, if he can't be trusted to handle money responsibly, can he really be trusted to be mature enough to say 'I've had enough' when he's reached his limit? And maybe toss in that he's actually asked for help controlling it, so they know it's something that he also wants and not something you're randomly deciding?
