Huh. The one time I ever shipped anything for Thranduil was an incest fic with Legolas. It was about a drunk bout of sex that left them soulbonded and all the trouble that ends up causing.

It probably dates from the time you mention too, as that was about the time I was in LotR (as opposed to The Hobbit, where I'm shipping Dwarves and Hobbits instead of elves).

(I still ship Valar though, but now I'm even more in favour of canon pairings. Some day I may even write that romance shortfic about Aulë and Yavanna.)

Never read that, was it good?

I think the only pairing I used to really ship in Tolkien were Beren and Lúthien. After watching The Hobbit I started visiting archives out of nostalgia... and then Thranduil and Legolas just happened XD

(That would be great, about Aulë and Yavanna. I actually haven't read many Valar fics... maybe I should start...!)

From what I remember of it - given that I read it around 9 years ago now - it was good, but I couldn't tell you which archive it's hiding in now. I supect it was located in an exclusively elfslash archive, but that's all I can tell you (that archive had plenty of good fic in it).

Back in those days I was very heavily a slasher. Canon pairings fell by the wayside in the face of my slash interests. Even Valar marriages got ignored in light of a hot Námo/Fëanor fic I once found. These days I am probably less inclined to such, but mainly because I'm now camped in the Dwarven end of the fandom. I'd probably still ship a threesome with a couple of the Valar though!

Unfortunately I don't think fics that centre on the Valar are common.

I think I read a similar one ... on Library of Moria, I believe?

Hah, google is my friend. Here's the Legolas/Thranduil section, and if I remember correctly, it would have to be Mistaken Identities/Bared Identities by Bone Fauna.

OME! Yes! That's it! I have fond memories of Boney.

Yay! I might have to re-read - it's been ages since last time, and since The Hobbit I'm back in the mood to read Tolkien (fic) again. *g*

I've been spending my time reading on the kink meme with a side of browsing AO3 - little to no elfslash, unless you count the occasional sidestory that has elf/dwarf (and that's not just Legolas/Gimli anymore).

Right now I'm reading Avengers and Criminal Minds fic, but I think when I leap into Tolkien fic again, I'm first going to look up all my old haunts. See what's still there, and what's been taken down.

First character to go to will be Elrond, though. I'm quite fond of him, and Hugo Weaving made him even better for me. ♥

Yeah, I pretty much leapt into the less known end of fandom, getting straight into shipping Bagginshield, when back in the day I almost never read any hobbit fic, and Legolas/Gimli was never my cup of tea (I actually have more tolerance for it now, in the aftermath of the hot!dwarves).

Haha, yes, I did read a couple of Bagginshield fics right after watching the movie. Book!Thorin is not really a character I like, but the movie made him much more likeable, and movie interactions between Thorin and Bilbo were delicious.

And hell yeah, hot/cute dwarves! But again, it was Elrond who captured my heart. That hug with Gandalf! That happy smile in his face (we never see him really smile in LotR)! Uhm, sorry, I better stop before I get carried away too far...

Heh! I can understand that sentiment!

I think my one true love has always been the Valar. Every time much mention of them is made in fic I'm happy. Of course passing comments on Mahal from dwarves is a little less so, but if something about Yavanna as seen by dwarves comes up, I'm twice as happy, because she's still Mahal's wife. I am also in love with the growing fanon that Hobbits are a favourite race of hers.

And that reminds me I should do a re-read of both The Silmarillion and LotR, soon, before I dive back into fandom. *g*
