As long as what you're shipping is either Andre/Tim Gunn or one-sided Emilio Sosa/Seth Aaron, I find no problem in this.

Andre/Tim Gunn/Red Lobster = ultimate OT3

Pretty sure Tim Gunn's asexual.

Only because it is. Hopefully these fandoms never grow.

Lighten up, it's just fashion (Santino/being on tv OTP)

I ship reality too, OP, but I wouldn't even call it RPF. Reality shows are still so far removed from reality: people act differently in front of cameras, they're put in contrived situations, and then it's all edited to tell a story that may or may not have happened. It's all more scripted than you think: I've worked in TV, and the producers often write out exactly the stories they want to tell even before filming happens.

So what we see on TV isn't real people, it's characters. I think of my reality TV ships this way, and I have a few of them (most recently Parvati and Malcolm from Survivor -- anyone? anyone?)

An argument could be made that all RPF is essentially shipping characters, though, since the writing is generally based on a celebrity's public persona. Public personas are typically =/= the actual person.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-13 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard this argument before, but I really hate it. The public persona is a part of a person. It's not the full side of a person, sure, but it's still a part of them. everyone has a public persona that they project. The fact that they're doing it in front of an audience of greedy paparazzi and dumb tabloid fans doesn't change that.

Marvati FTW. \o/

Also Malcolm and Cochran = BFFs.

But I agree with the video posted above - there's a line you shouldn't cross between shipping real people and keeping it in a fandom space vs. shipping real people and actually contacting those real people (via social media or at conventions, etc.) and shoving it in their faces. @__@

Sort on topic--boy I love Project Runway. I can't really stand watching shows like American Idol, because they always come down to whatever style people like. Which is why it's usually country or pop singers that win. I know that's true of basically any talent reality show, but it's a lot more satisfying to watch beautiful clothes be put together, start to finish. I stopped watching when they switched off of Bravo, though--the first couple episodes I watched on the new station seemed pretty dull.

Season 7 is pretty good, if you want to go back for one last run. I used to be a diehard fan (still am? idk?), but even I'm getting tired of the recent seasons. They've been putting out way too much episodes; like, every time a season ends, there's only about a month before the next one begins.

I watched, I think, the first episode of the most recent season? And I haven't watched any else since. I'll check the recaps on TLo every so often, but that's about it.

I thought people watched reality shows because they liked seeing people hooking up, sort of like celebrity couples.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well on the newest Real World all they seem to be able to do is talk about fucking, so your ships might just become reality!!

The Real World and Bad Girls Club are two of my biggest guilty pleasures. I don't ship people, but I do wish I had more people to talk about the shows with.

Unrelated to rpf in these shows, but what's the general opinion on the new season of project runway?

I've been watching the show since it started and I've always loved it, but I couldn't stand this seasons "team" themes. I think I stopped watching it after episode 3 and it really bummed me out u__u

The teams thing annoyed me to no end but I managed through it. The last couple of episodes they designed on their own but with "assistants" so it's been better.

Austin and Santino FTW! <3
