I ship reality too, OP, but I wouldn't even call it RPF. Reality shows are still so far removed from reality: people act differently in front of cameras, they're put in contrived situations, and then it's all edited to tell a story that may or may not have happened. It's all more scripted than you think: I've worked in TV, and the producers often write out exactly the stories they want to tell even before filming happens.

So what we see on TV isn't real people, it's characters. I think of my reality TV ships this way, and I have a few of them (most recently Parvati and Malcolm from Survivor -- anyone? anyone?)

An argument could be made that all RPF is essentially shipping characters, though, since the writing is generally based on a celebrity's public persona. Public personas are typically =/= the actual person.

I've heard this argument before, but I really hate it. The public persona is a part of a person. It's not the full side of a person, sure, but it's still a part of them. everyone has a public persona that they project. The fact that they're doing it in front of an audience of greedy paparazzi and dumb tabloid fans doesn't change that.

Marvati FTW. \o/

Also Malcolm and Cochran = BFFs.

But I agree with the video posted above - there's a line you shouldn't cross between shipping real people and keeping it in a fandom space vs. shipping real people and actually contacting those real people (via social media or at conventions, etc.) and shoving it in their faces. @__@
