(Anonymous) 2013-04-13 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)There's so much to make fun of in my country, and yet it always boils down to "Bavarian at Oktoberfest" or "Nazi".

(Anonymous) 2013-04-13 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)I'm not one of those people who say "omg stop making fun of my nation, bawww". Al I want is just some spoofs I can actually relate to.
Because hey, I like to laugh at my nation. I'm just tired of the Nazi clichees and that's why I could actually laugh at Humon's depiction of MODERN Germany
:p

(Anonymous) 2013-04-13 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)Those satire cartoons are just that: satire. Everything they do is over the top generalization based on outdated stereotypes.
I don't watch any sitcoms or stand up comics, so maybe that is why I haven't seen it. Could you share the names of some?

Yes, I'm not nesseccarily complaining about that.
I was just answering the question.
This secret was about how the OP couldn't get most of the jokes in SATW and I was just saying that I, as a German, could laugh about Humon's depiction of Germany more than most of what I see on TV (a.k.a. American media).
It's over the top, it's clearly making fun of Germans, but in a way that has some truth to it.
For example the entire situation with Germans as tourists, that made me laugh real hard because Germans ARE embarrassing tourists and yet many countries need them to make enough money, so they (pretend to) love them anyways. That's much funnier to me than a goosestepping German tourist at the beach, because that's just a WWII callback and really lazy in terms of writing (because OP said it was bad writing on Humon's part).
And just to be safe, I'm not excusing Humon or saying she is amazing at what she does, because the comic has some serious problems (most of them Humon being a racist asshole) and that's why I stopped reading a long time ago.
