...really, the problem is just as much finding *any* active female character in high fantasy who focuses on traditionally feminine stuff more than warrioring Even a lot of the long-haired ones are warriors, as OP noticed in her secret.)

The movie is pretty good but the ending is really abrupt and it gets compressed at the end, mostly because (I think) Miyazaki hadn't finished the manga yet at that time. Either that or just because it's hard to fit all that story into a movie. It kinda sucks because I liked Kushana and Kurotowa and the Torumekians but they get shafted for time
The soundtrack to that movie is the best, unlike other Jo Hisaishi soundtracks, it's heavy on synth -- and it seems like the synth music is used in the scenes with the Ohmu and the miasma-filled forests and stuff, as opposed to general traditional orchestration in the scenes that take place in the Valley and such
