Re: Show/Book/Movie/Game that was much better than you expected

Supernatural. Looked like the shittiest kind of American TV, complete with vapid pretty people and cheesy mythology fuckpie. Watched some random episodes from the 4th season just because I found Misha Collins really hot. Started wondering about all of the other characters and the interesting-looking flashbacks.

Went back to the pilot, found a beautifully-shot, well-written show with magnetic, three-dimensional characters and some of the best angst I've ever experienced.

Aaaand about a month later I had an account on LJ and was publishing fanfiction (I've never written fanfic before).

I had a similar experience. I wrote it off because the previews I'd seen did not appeal to me at all, and I assumed it was along the lines as Smallville and similar CW shows, which are not at all to my taste. I caved and watched a few eps expecting to be underwhelmed, then ended up marathoning the first five seasons in a month. I'm glad I finally gave it a chance.
