Re: Breast reduction?

Full disclosure: Never had a breast reduction, but:

First: Things that I've heard are that when it comes to breast reductions (as opposed to full or partial mastectomies), there's a limit for a lot of doctors on how far they're willing to take you down -- some of it has to do with the amount and size of gland tissue and some of it has to do with body fat. If this is accurate information, keep in mind that a B-cup might not be possible. But I'm a C-cup and had have never had a problem with back pain from them, and it's never hurt to go bra-less (but I get self-conscious when the girls are flopping all around, as they are prone to do without a bra).

Second: Regarding numbness, I don't know how comparable this is, but when I was a baby in the early 80s I had heart surgery that left a scar that starts just underneath my breast, right around my ribs where my front almost becomes my side, and runs underneath my sideboob (I'm pretty fat) back to my shoulder blade.

I've got some numbness on that breast, but it's not like "I can't feel anything!" There's still sensation there, it's just *different* from the other breast.

But definitely talk to a doctor to see what they have to say (though, unless you're talking to a plastic surgeon who's just all about elective surgery for the hell of it, you might meet some resistance if you're reason is just to have "cute little boobs." So if you don't want to deal with that, you might want to work up a story about back pain or awkward sleep positions or something.

I don't get why elective surgery for the reason of "I want big boobs!" is more acceptable than elective surgery for the reason of "I want little boobs!" :/ It's still a surgical procedure that messes with what's naturally there, so why is the one that involves implanting a foreign substance more acceptable than the one that simply removes extra tissue?

Blah. Society is fucking stupid... Elective surgery is elective surgery, no matter what you're doing.

And if she's going to a plastic surgeon that does surgeries just because, there probably won't be a problem. But if she's hoping to have insurance pay for any of it, chances are good she'll need a referral from another doctor saying it would be medically beneficial -- something they're unlikely to say for "I want cute little boobs."

This makes me think I really should revisit a doctor before I mentally commit just to see what my options really are. I was under the impression from my first consultation that the only issue in me going down to a B cup was in loss of sensation and ability to breastfeed.

I don't have back or sleep issues so this surgery would solely be cosmetic, I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend and recuperate so much for a less than satisfactory result. If a C is the smallest I can get maybe I would be better waiting until I'm older and start to become more unhappy with my breasts.

I'm a little unhappy at the thought I'd meet such resistance over reducing my boobs but unsurprised.
