Breast reduction?

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-04-14 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone here had one?

I'm currently a 34 Gish and I would really like to be a B cup. Literally everyone, both men and women (even women with maternal feelings towards me) tell me I would regret it and think I should go down to a D or not at all. I just really want cute little boobs and to never have to wear a bra again if I don't want to.

If you've had a breast reduction did you regret going too big or too small or having it at all, how was the healing, did anything differ from your expectation, and do you have any advice? I don't really care if there's scarring but the loss of sensation/uncomfortableness I've heard about is giving me some serious dnw.

If you haven't had a breast reduction and want to tell me giant boobs are awesome and I'm so lucky I don't really want to hear it.

I gold cold feet and didn't go through with mine. I still want to, but all those questions you have were swimming in my head and I became convinced I'd regret it forever. I just wasn't ready and am still not but I think when someone IS ready, they won't regret it when they do it.

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to share but I wish you good luck!

I've heard that there's the potential for it to go wrong (like, leaving bumps and lopsided boobs and generally not making it work out okay), but this is anecdata and I have no idea how often that happens.

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder if wearing a binder for a while to try it out would help? I haven't had one myself so I don't think I can give adequate advice.

Re: Breast reduction?

I will say that wearing a compression shirt beats out wearing a bra - though I'm trans and feminine underthings bug me in so many ways, so there's that to consider. But as somebody with ~32D boobs, I've been able to wear a simple compression shirt and it keeps the dang things holstered well enough to forego any other support, and it's much comfier, to boot.

Besides that, they're cheaper than a breast reduction, so if you're not certain about the procedure, I'd also suggest going with that. That said, I think the only thing big boobs are good for is cultural sex appeal - mostly to douchebag dudes who have no idea what a pain in the goddamn ass they are. If they're bothering you, I don't see anything wrong with getting a reduction - what's to regret? You'll be carrying less weight, reducing strain on your back, and it'll get them out of the way and more shirts will fit better. I see no bad here.

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy your compression shirt?

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I could give you more details than this (but I guess calling up my aunt in the middle of the night to ask about her tits is frowned upon in certain parts of the world) but my aunt had a reduction done a few years ago, and they only thing she regrets is not doing it sooner.

Did you talk to any doctors yet? I believe (but please don't quote me on it) I can remember something like... the more tissue they remove, the more chance there is of sensation loss. Whether going from a G to a B would be too much in terms of risking sensation loss, I don't know.

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
DO IT. Like seriously our loved ones are great but they don't always know what is best for us. If you feel uncomfortable being a g cup then that's all that matters.

Healing can be a bitch but so many people I know were so happy after breast reduction. Especially if you've ever had back issues it can be a huge help.

If you're hesitant about the B cup, maybe a C cup? C is generally a good size to go down to, I wouldn't recommend D because that's still on the large side, at least to me it is.

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, C is a solid mid-range.

Re: Breast reduction?

Can't really offer any advice, but I'm in basically the same boat -- 32 DDD (I think? IDK every time I get measured they tell me a different letter higher than D and I just don't even want to go there) and I would really love to be a B cup, but it does seem really drastic. Especially as if the nerves are damaged it can hurt your chances if being able to breastfeed successfully, which is not the kind of decision I want to make for myself in my early twenties.

But I really just want to be able to walk into a normal store and buy a normal bra for crying out loud. Maybe if I could actually find bras that fit me, the size wouldn't bother me so much.

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a D and I can barely find bras that fit me, even though I'm technically in the "normal range." Department stores are very "small tits or GTFO," I'm afraid, so I feel your pain. :/

It's just so frustrating because clearly the market is there! Like, I really do not have freakishly huge breasts, I see plenty of people that have larger breasts than me, so what's the holdup in selling bras to us?

capitalism, why u no work for ladies' undergarments? :(

I wear a 36 H and Wacoal has beautiful bras for that size (not just the industrial cafeteria lady style that is so ubiquitous for bigger breasts) and you can buy them at Dillards. Several different styles and all kinds of colors! Fun colors! It's always made me sad that mostly I could only get black, white, or nude bras because they just don't make fun bras in bigger cup sizes. I wish I had found these bras sooner. They are expensive, though, as I'm sure you already know. :(

Look, anybody who's told you you don't have to wear a bra when you have a B cup is lying to you. It may not hurt as much to move when you decrease size, but seriously, support those suckers. :/

Don't have any advice in terms of the surgery itself, but my mother got a reduction and she says that yes, there is a loss of sensation. But--big but here--how extreme this is depends on the type of surgery. What type of surgery your breasts need depends on their shape and size, so it varies.

Re: Breast reduction?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
There's actually some support for the idea support doesn't actually do anything and might even weaken the muscles used to support boobs. I know a lot of older women who are b cups and have never worn bras and they look just fine.

Besides, I don't care if my b size boobs start to sag if I don't wear a bra, just as long as it isn't so damn uncomfortable and inconvenient.

I knew there was correlation between extremity of the surgery and loss of sensation but I guess I was hoping it might not be as bad as I have heard from people who haven't had the surgery. My boobs already aren't the most sensitive and I'm not too fond of the idea of getting the new boobs I want and not having a compelling reason to play with them. :( Thanks for weighing in though.

You have to still wear a bra if you're a B Cup.

As for reductions, let me just say I have never had one but I know a bit about them. They can cause numbness or loss of sensation in certain areas of the breast. It can cause scaring. I heard there are other complications that can arise but I'm fuzzy on them.

Your best bet, since most people around you seem to be size obsessed and not actually all that knowledgeable, is to make an appointment with a doctor and have a list of questions you can ask them about such a procedure. In fact, maybe they can refer you to a specialist with whom you can ask questions. On top of that, it might be good to talk to B Cups, you should talk to them about maintenance and stuff like that to see what will change and what won't.

Why would I still have to wear a bra as a B cup? I know several people in that size who don't and haven't for quite a long time.

Scarring would actually be kind of a plus for me, it's the loss of sensation and numbness I'm hung up on. :( I guess eventually I'm going to have to decide if I want smaller boobs more than I want sensation.

I did have an initial consultation with a doctor but ultimately felt too uncomfortable with him to pursue another appointment and he's the highest rated in my area. :/

Re: Breast reduction?

Full disclosure: Never had a breast reduction, but:

First: Things that I've heard are that when it comes to breast reductions (as opposed to full or partial mastectomies), there's a limit for a lot of doctors on how far they're willing to take you down -- some of it has to do with the amount and size of gland tissue and some of it has to do with body fat. If this is accurate information, keep in mind that a B-cup might not be possible. But I'm a C-cup and had have never had a problem with back pain from them, and it's never hurt to go bra-less (but I get self-conscious when the girls are flopping all around, as they are prone to do without a bra).

Second: Regarding numbness, I don't know how comparable this is, but when I was a baby in the early 80s I had heart surgery that left a scar that starts just underneath my breast, right around my ribs where my front almost becomes my side, and runs underneath my sideboob (I'm pretty fat) back to my shoulder blade.

I've got some numbness on that breast, but it's not like "I can't feel anything!" There's still sensation there, it's just *different* from the other breast.

But definitely talk to a doctor to see what they have to say (though, unless you're talking to a plastic surgeon who's just all about elective surgery for the hell of it, you might meet some resistance if you're reason is just to have "cute little boobs." So if you don't want to deal with that, you might want to work up a story about back pain or awkward sleep positions or something.

I don't get why elective surgery for the reason of "I want big boobs!" is more acceptable than elective surgery for the reason of "I want little boobs!" :/ It's still a surgical procedure that messes with what's naturally there, so why is the one that involves implanting a foreign substance more acceptable than the one that simply removes extra tissue?

Blah. Society is fucking stupid... Elective surgery is elective surgery, no matter what you're doing.

This makes me think I really should revisit a doctor before I mentally commit just to see what my options really are. I was under the impression from my first consultation that the only issue in me going down to a B cup was in loss of sensation and ability to breastfeed.

I don't have back or sleep issues so this surgery would solely be cosmetic, I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend and recuperate so much for a less than satisfactory result. If a C is the smallest I can get maybe I would be better waiting until I'm older and start to become more unhappy with my breasts.

I'm a little unhappy at the thought I'd meet such resistance over reducing my boobs but unsurprised.

Thanks for commenting!

I'm a 34 A/B who has a hard time thinking of her breasts as 'cute' instead of 'practically nonexistant', but I've gotta say you should just do it and give no fucks what anyone else thinks, because you know your body and they don't. I feel a kneejerk instinct to say a C cup would be a compromise between B & D, but really your doctor should be able to tell you what cup size you can most safely and comfortably go down to.

I personally would not go outside without a bra even as a small cup, but a lot of that's becauae my stomach would stick out further than my breasts if I did (oh vanity, thou art a cruel mistress). I have however done exercise videos braless with only some discomfort, so if you're willing to get used to the feeling I would say it could be done.

I got into the thread late (sorry!), and I wanted to say, I had one a year ago this last Dec. 7th, so if you ever have any specific questions, please feel free to PM me! As for the ones you asked....

I had a G cup. Unfortunately, the doctor was only able to remove enough non-essential tissue to get me to a C cup. You can go in to your potential surgeon, and ask them ranges, but I'm guessing you're probably not going to go much lower then a low C. Take it. It'll be so worth it! Any smaller, and they'll be removing things they really shouldn't be. Unfortunately, boobs aren't literally just bags of fat, or it would be so much nicer!

I love it! I got all I could taken out (around 9lb all together), and it is lovely. Though, I ended up with floppy boobs; perky ones would take an extra surgery. The healing was 110% great- here's the thing, follow your doctor's instructions to the letter, or get someone to help you. I had blood draining out, and I had to take the measurements as the healing process went on, of how much blood I was losing; it can be gross, so if you don't like blood, see if you have someone you trust who can help you.

Also, you might have to sleep in a recliner for a little bit.

I didn't have much scarring, but it as there. Nor did I end up with any uncomfortableness, however I did have a loss of sensation, and because of the way they had to do mine (they had to remove my nipples+those brown things around them idk what they're called and graft them back on), I can never breastfed. I'm not too broken up about it, but I honestly can't remember if you've mentioned a preference one way or the other about that, so it might be something to keep in mind. (They can do it another way, called the "keyhole" method, but they can't get you as small with that.) But, yeah, no sensation. I think? At least, I can't feel any pleasure, but I never tried to see about that before hand, so I'm not sure if that's a *me* thing, or a *surgery* thing, ya know?

But, yeah, PM me if you ever have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them! I might be real vague about the first few days, though... I was on drugs. >_>;

Edit: And another thing! You may end up with some fluid settling under your arms. That will require anterior surgery (for me, anyway), and while it doesn't really get in the way (IMO), it can be frustrating, if you like to wear moderately tight~tight shirts. Or you might get lucky, and that doesn't happen, IDK.

I was under the impression I could go that small if I was willing to lose the ability to breastfeed. While I'm not 100% that's a decision I should be making right now I do kind of feel that considering I don't have any back or sleep problems settling for less (or more in this case) than I want isn't really worth the cost and healing time right now.

Honestly this thread is making me think I need to see another doctor. The one I visited was really fixated on convincing me being able to breastfeed was non-negotiable for a woman my age and to get my breasts lightly touched up and not reduced in any way.

Thank you so much for your response and congrats on your new boobs! :)

I haven't had a breast reduction, but my ex-girlfriend has and she never regretted it for a minute.

Like some people said - this might depend on your body type, etc - there might be a limit to how much you can get your breasts reduced. GF also started out as a G, and had her breasts reduced to C/D-cups. She would have liked to go smaller at the time, but that wasn't possible. She's happy with the results now, though.

On the plus side: Even though she's a D-cup, she doesn't really need to wear a bra if she doesn't want to! The surgery she had was a breast reduction and lift at the same time(I don't know if this is standard). Her boobs are perkier than my B-cups. When she goes for exercise or whatever she has to wear one, but so do those of us with small breasts.

The scars faded a lot over time. You can barely see them now. But the fading process did go on for literally years, way longer than she thought it would. After a year you could still see the scars very clearly, and she didn't think they would fade much more after that, but they really have. She did lose sensation in her nipples, but not her entire breasts.

I know a few more people who have had breast reductions (they're all a bit older and I don't know them as well, though), and none of them have regretted it. They all seem to think of it as one of the better decisions they've made. You know your body best, if it's something you want, go for it and don't let people stop you.

Re: Breast reduction?

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-04-14 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually wanted to go A cup originally but after some discussion and consideration I'm pretty firmly set on B cup. I don't have any back or sleep issues so I'm not convinced I would want to spend that much and be out of commission for so long for a less than satisfactory result while I'm still young and relatively unbothered by my breasts. :/

By limit I could go what do you mean? The doctor I spoke to seemed to imply the only reason I couldn't go that small is because I would lose too much sensation and the ability to breastfeed. Both of which aren't hard limits for me.

Thank you for sharing. :)
