I spent a fair bit of time in the fandom before I was able to get a hold of a copy of the game, so I saw a fair bit of bashing fics before I actually played the game through. However when I did play it, I liked Rinoa and thought she was cute... but I still couldn't get interested in the relationship between her and Squall.

Maybe that's the fault of Japanese cultural mores that don't translate to my Australian mindset, or maybe it's because I was, at the time, an almost complete slasher, or maybe it's a mix of both.

The thing is? I just can't see them working. I really don't think they'd last even six months after the whole mess and Rinoa would wander off back to Timber again. I'd like to think though that her influence does help Squall be a bit less closed off to his friends.
