The same can be said for the men who didn't marry and have children in those books. It wasn't just a women thing.

Very true.

It's kind of the nature of the story that a lot of the adult characters will fall into one of three categories: 1) parents/guardians of the child protagonists, 2) teachers of the child protagonists, and 3) villans whom the child protagonists fight. There aren't going to be huge numbers of other random adults in a story about child wizards.

Right, and b/c it's told from the POV of a kid, this makes sense to me.
