Somehow I have the feeling you're taking extreme liberties with what she actually said and meant.

So, women who aren't mothers don't understand what it's like to have kids? Well, no shit. Does that have to mean we all should get to having kids because understanding what it's like is essential to being a proper woman?

Well said. I agree. I don't think that's what she meant but I do think she's right in saying only women w/ kids know what it's like to be a mother and have kids. That's just common sense, though--but I guess you'd be surprised at how many people think it's all fun and games and shit. :/

That's the thing. It's no different than my not understanding what your job is or you understanding mine. I'm an army wife, going through our fifth deployment. Reading a few books or watching a few movies doesn't mean you are going to get the day to day of my life any more than I'll get the day to day of yours. The same goes for being a parent. You can be empathetic to a person/character as a basic human response, but until you've actually walked a mile in my shoes ... I don't know that I'll ever understand people who don't get that.
