What do you expect, OP? This is fandom. If you hate a female character, you're clearly a misogynist. Even if a female character is an absolutely horrible person, you're still not allowed to hate her or insult her, even if you insult the male characters you hate just as much. *spent too much time in the ASOIAF fandom getting yelled at by Cersei fans*

I agree. I wish I didn't, but I do. In the Supernatural fandom, if you hate any female character, then you're wrong. I happen to dislike Naomi and Amelia. However, on Tumblr, they're the season eight fandom darlings. I am apparently wrong and hate women (never mind the fact that my favourite television character ever is Ruby) and my opinions are invalid.

I think, in a weird way, it has to do with...idk...fear? It honestly seems like people are so afraid that if they admit they don't like a female character, they're instantly going to be as bad as the writers (who, yes, in SPN, are a bit...questionable).

Just jumping in here to say - wait, what? On my very Dean/Cas-centric dash, I have seen NOTHING but hate for Naomi and Amelia. Everyone thinks Amelia is a boring snooze who we were all convinced was fake up until she showed up in the bar, and Naomi - cannot describe the levels of hate that she gets.

If there's any character that people seem to really like (and personally I can't stand) it's Meg. But I mean, I guess everyone's fandom experience is different. I just really don't know what you mean about those two characters in particular being "fandom darlings."

(NAYRT) I've had exactly the same experience with Naomi and Amelia. I've seen some pretty vocal hate for both characters, both on Tumblr and LJ. Kind of wishing I knew who AYRT hung around, since I'd like to follow people who didn't go on and on about how much both characters suck.

If people are giving you shit simply because you dislike Naomi and Amelia as characters and not because you're using misogynistic slurs to express how much you hate them, then they're idiots. Not liking every female character =/= being a misogynist. Now, someone who hated every single female character who came along I'd probably side-eye a bit, but that doesn't sound like what you're doing. I like both characters, personally, but people are going to react to character's differently and both have traits that I could understand someone not liking. Also, people have different taste.

Also, re:SPN, I think people get especially defensive of female characters because of reactions of certain parts of the fanbase and how incredibly vocal they are about how much they hate a lot of the female characters on the show. Especially if there's any hint said characters might be a love interest. There were people tweeting the actress who kissed Dean a few episode's back with hate before the episode even aired because she said in an interview that she thought her character would probably be okay with having a relationship with Dean in the future. That is just... crazy. Those people obviously aren't all of the fandom or even the majority, I'd say, but they're pretty damn vocal, and that reaction to some of the female characters has contributed to some of them being written off, which is kind of shitty. The writer's aren't always the best when it comes to handling female characters, lbr, (forever bitter about the way Anna was written off) but certain parts of the fandom definitely aren't helping things, either.
