Eh? I didn't think Tony built the Helicarrier. If he built it, why did he have to hack it longhand when he came aboard? You'd think if he built the thing he'd have built himself a backdoor.

Rebuild it after the movie, however, I could see that. It was kind of in bits by the time Clint, Loki and the Hulk got through with it.

According to comics canon, Tony and Reed Richards (and some other X-dude whose name escapes me) designed the thing. OTOH, considering how recalcitrant movie Tony was about handing his tech over to the US government, whose side he's ostensibly on, I'm not sure how sanguine he'd be about handing it over to Fury, whom he neither likes nor trusts.

It runs on handwavium. That's all we need to know.
